Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:32-39

Ps 106:32-39

32 By the waters of Meribah they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them; 33 for they rebelled against the Spirit of God, and rash words came from Moses' lips. 34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them, 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs. 36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood. 39 They defiled themselves by what they did; by their deeds they prostituted themselves.

2 Cor 6:14-16, 7:1

14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15 What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." 7:1 Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

Paul says we have no choice but to live in this world but at the same time, we are not to be a part of the world or let it become a part of us. We are to be separate and we are to be different from those who do not serve God. The way we can be different is to not think like them which will result in our not talking or acting like the world around us. We are to stand out and shine as stars in a dark sky.

At the same time we must be around others and many of them do not serve God or even respect him as God. As we let the love of Jesus shine forth in our lives, we will remember that we once were lost in sin and living in darkness but we have been forgiven by the blood of Jesus. So we never look down on them but rather we have compassion for them. As we let our lights shine, we glorify the Father in heaven and in so doing, we show those around us the path to Jesus.

Heavenly Father we come to you asking that you be merciful to our nation that has turned away from the principles upon which we were founded. Most of our fathers recognized the Bible as your word and so let it guide them. Today many of our leaders have no respect for you or your word and have led many to do things that are ungodly and immoral by making them legal. Have mercy on us and give us leaders who will respect you and let us live in peace. In Jesus name.
