Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:30-36

Ps 105:30-36

30 Their land teemed with frogs, which went up into the bedrooms of their rulers. 31 He spoke, and there came swarms of flies, and gnats throughout their country. 32 He turned their rain into hail, with lightning throughout their land; 33 he struck down their vines and fig trees and shattered the trees of their country. 34 He spoke, and the locusts came, grasshoppers without number; 35 they ate up every green thing in their land, ate up the produce of their soil. 36 Then he struck down all the firstborn in their land, the firstfruits of all their manhood.

Phil 3:20-21

20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

The same God who brought the plagues upon Egypt in order to deliver his people and to carry out his will, is still in control of things today. Pharaoh did not want to believe that the God of Moses was behind the plagues. Even when he set the terms and God carried it out, he refused to accept the truth. As the plagues came, his advisors and the people begged him to acknowledge God and let the people of Israel leave, but he refused. But God was in control and delivered his people.

God spoke and it happened. By his word the world and all that is in it was created, the flood destroyed it, the plagues devastated Egypt and then the waters came back from their restraints and destroyed their army in the sea. By his word Jesus came forth from the grave and by that same word the world will come to an end and the dead will be raised. At his appointed time, Jesus will come for his own.

In the midst of all the troubles in our world, God is still in control. His people do not panic over a pandemic nor worry about the politics of our day. We do not fret over the climate because any change that takes place is under his control. If the world is destroyed by a nuclear explosion, it will only be at his bidding. So we live in peace and we share his love for all mankind. We enjoy his beauty, even in the midst of the storms and see his power in fires that rage and destroy. He is God!

Heavenly Father keep me from ever underestimating your power and your control when I am unable to understand or explain things around me. Never let me blame you for evil but glorify you in all of what we know as nature. Be merciful to our nation and send an awakening to those who ignore you and your word. Stop the religions and politics that spread hatred, bitterness, division and violence. Help your people spread your love and mercy, even to those who mock you. Give your peace and your healing to those who are hurting. I pray in Jesus name.
