Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:31-35

Ps 104:31-35

31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD rejoice in his works-- 32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. 33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. 34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in the LORD. 35 But may sinners vanish from the earth and the wicked be no more. Praise the LORD, O my soul. Praise the LORD.

Rom 14:16-19

16 Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18 because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.

It is no exaggeration to say that we live in trying times. The more one is seeking to do what is right and live for the Lord, the more trying things seem to be. Noah was bombarded every day with the evil all around him. Lot faced the ungodliness of Sodom and the surrounding cities as he sought to serve the Lord. Evil is spoken of as being good and ungodliness is proclaimed to be the right way of life.

There are those who are seeking to make it a crime to speak out against any form of sexual sins. Already in some states it is illegal to try to help someone give up the sins of homosexuality and to encourage them to go straight and this is being pushed on the federal level. While the worship of false gods is promoted in public places, some would make it a crime to pray to the God in heaven in public.

Add to the wickedness and disrespect of God, all of the social unrest and the Covid fears and we live in some very trying times. But we as Christians are not to live in fear or shrink back from both doing what is right and from proclaiming his truth in a spirit of love. We must never be ashamed of Jesus Christ as our Lord.

Rather than live in fear we must stand for what is right and we will praise the Lord for he is good. His mercy endures forever and his love has no end. In the worst of times we will rejoice in the Lord because we know he is always near to us.

Heavenly Father it is with joy that I face a new day. Help me put all of my past behind me and face this day with a resolve to be all you want me to be and a desire to do your will in all things. The good I have done does not give me reason to boast and the bad has been forgiven. Please be with those who are sick, those who are taking treatments, those getting over surgeries and all who face these things in the future that they will trust you and find your peace. Thank you for loving me and taking care of me in so many ways. I pray in Jesus name.
