Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:10-18

Ps 104:10-18

10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12 The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. 13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate--bringing forth food from the earth: 15 wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. 16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. 18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys [or rock badger].

Acts 14:16-17

16 In the past, he [God] let all nations go their own way. 17 Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy."

God takes care of his creation. While there are things that interrupt from time to time, he has provided a system to feed and provide water for all things. He feeds in the depths of the oceans and on the highest mountains. From the smallest of animals to the largest, each has its own way of finding food and a place to live in safety. Some hibernate in the winter while some travel to southern regions.

Jesus said if the Father takes care of the birds and the grass of the field, how much more he will take care of us! Why do we fret and worry about the things we need in life when God has promised to provide our needs? It may be the problem is on our end of things because his promise is conditional upon us serving him and putting him first in our lives. God can and will do his part if we trust him.

He has already done all that needs to be done for our eternal wellbeing. Jesus came to earth and lived as one of us and then took our sin upon himself when he died on the cross. He died so we might live and he lives so we will not die.

Heavenly Father it is with such joy that I put my trust in you for all I need in life. It gives me peace in my heart to know that you love me and that you have forgiven me for all the things I have done against you and your holy name. Keep me from ever abusing your grace or taking for granted your love but keep me diligent in my service to you. Fill my heart with love for others as you love me and help me be as compassionate, merciful, and forgiving as you are toward me. Be with our nation and those who lead us that we may live in peace. I pray in Jesus name.
