Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:23-28

Ps 102:23-28

23 In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. 24 So I said: "Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. 25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. 26 They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. 27 But you remain the same, and your years will never end. 28 The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you."

Rev 20:11-14

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.

What started out as a Psalm of despair comes to an end in praise. This is why Paul says we are to pray about all things with thanksgiving instead of worrying about them. When we recognize that all of our blessings are from God and all we have in this life is from his hand, we praise him and give thanks to his holy name.

Try going a whole day without complaining about anything but instead try giving thanks for everything in your life that day. Even the trials serve a purpose and are controlled by God. Suffering builds our faith. Bodily afflictions and disease can make us more deeply realize that Jesus cares about us and is with us. Determine to not worry about anything that might happen in the future but truly hand it over to the one who can use it for our good in ways we cannot imagine.

Today is the day that the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. We are the sheep of his pasture and Jesus is our Great Shepherd. He will feed us and take care of our every need when we put our trust in him and follow him.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful that I can talk to you and know that you will hear my every need. I am aware that you know what I need before I know and you have a plan for what is best in my life. Thank you for your providence and your guidance in ways I cannot understand. Thank you for the United States of America and the privilege to live here. Please be merciful and forgiving toward us but be convicting to those who reject you and follow their own way. Guide our leaders and give them your wisdom to rule. I pray in the name of Jesus.
