Daily Devotional: Psalms 95:6-11

Ps 95:6-11

6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker; 7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the desert, 9 where your fathers tested and tried me, though they had seen what I did. 10 For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways." 11 So I declared on oath in my anger, "They shall never enter my rest."

Heb 3:12-14

12 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first.

The apostle Paul said that the things written in the Old Testament were written for our learning. If there is a resounding message to be found, it is that we are to listen to God and obey his word. The writer of Hebrews says that Jesus is superior to Moses and if the Jews of old disobeyed and were punished, how much more we will be if we fail to listen to Christ today. He is our lawgiver.

God loves us, even as he loved them. But John says that if we love God, we will keep his commandments. Some will say that our faith is what matters but James says that faith that is not demonstrated in action is not a saving faith at all, but is dead. We are saved by grace but Paul says that when we accept his grace by faith, we respond by obeying Jesus and seeking to be like him.

We are the children of God and we seek to honor him in all we do and say. Others will judge Jesus based on our attitudes and our lives. If we are not ashamed of the name “Christian” then we will seek to be like Jesus our Lord. This will set us apart from the world around us because they seek their own way and not his. Jesus said the greatest command given is to love the Lord God with all our heart, all our soul and all our mind and the second is like it, to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Heavenly Father fill me with your Spirit and mold me into the likeness of Jesus my Lord and my Savior. Increase my faith so I will obey you in all things. Help me love others as you love me and to be willing to be forgiving toward them in all things. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Thank you for all you have given me and do for me. Please be with those who are taking treatments for cancer and other diseases. I ask for your healing on them. Guide our elections and give us leaders who will respect you and your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
