Daily Devotional: Psalms 94:1-7

Ps 94:1-7

1 O LORD, the God who avenges, O God who avenges, shine forth. 2 Rise up, O Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. 3 How long will the wicked, O LORD, how long will the wicked be jubilant? 4 They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. 5 They crush your people, O LORD; they oppress your inheritance. 6 They slay the widow and the alien; they murder the fatherless. 7 They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob pays no heed."

Heb 2:14-18

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-that is, the devil- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

In my seventy plus years I have never seen the political and social unrest that we are experiencing in our country today. Add to this the uncertainty of the COVID virus and all the new protocols it has brought and we have a time in life most have never faced before. We can discuss why these things are happening but probably will not reach a consensus on the answers. But the real question is not why but what are we doing with our situation and what is it doing to us?

This is a time when we should learn to trust God more than ever. In our reliance on him to take away our fears we can show the world around us the joy and peace that comes to us in Jesus Christ. Paul said we are not to worry about anything but we are to pray about everything. This includes our situation today.

It is also a time when we as God’s children should pull together and be more united than ever before. We are being attached by our enemy and if he can use it to cause division, he has won his battle. This is a time for patience, tolerance of different opinions, kindness, forgiveness and most of all the love of God in us.

Heavenly Father it is a privilege to be your child. I know you are in control of our world and that you will not allow me to be tempted beyond what I am able to bear. Give me greater faith to trust you in the midst of the turmoil of our world and help me open my heart to your Spirit so his fruit will show forth in my life. Give me your wisdom from above. Be with our nation and guide our leaders so that we can continue to live peaceful lives. I pray in the name of Jesus.
