Daily Devotional: Psalms 91:9-16

Ps 91:9-16

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling--even the LORD, who is my refuge--10 then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

2 Cor 4:16-18

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

When we look around us and we hear the news it is easy to be overcome with all the turmoil of social unrest and the effects of the Covid-19 virus and allow our hearts to be filled with worry, fear and anxiety. But we serve a God of peace and Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He is near and he wants to protect us. The only thing he requires of us to do this as his children is that we put our trust in him.

Trust recognizes that God is God. It never doubts his motives or his love for us as his children. In the darkest of times, in the midst of the storms and in the most painful situations he is there for us and will watch over us. Our trust recognizes that he is powerful enough to overcome anything we face in life.

Trust obeys his will for us. It will not argue with his word nor will it apply it for our convenience and ease. Trust says that we no longer live for ourselves but Christ Jesus lives in us. We are here on earth to do the will of God and glorify the name of Jesus as our Lord and our Savior. It is in this trust that we find the peace that surpasses all comprehension and our hearts and minds are guarded by him.

Heavenly Father it is so wonderful to know you are in control of this world. It is so assuring to trust you and not have to worry about what is going to happen to me or to this country. Give me wisdom to take care of myself and the courage to do what I should to help this nation be all you want it to be; but in the end, give me faith to trust you in it all. Help me keep my eyes on that which is unseen so I am not overwhelmed by the things in this world. Be with the leaders of our land that they will govern with your wisdom. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
