Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:19-24

Ps 89:19-24

19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: "I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. 20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. 21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. 22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. 24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.

Matt 21:6-9

6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. 8 A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, "Hosanna to the Son of David!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Hosanna in the highest!"

Based on my understanding of Scripture, it is my belief that many good people today have been deceived into believing that Jesus will come back to earth and sit on a literal throne in the city of Jerusalem. There is no doubt that Jesus is the son of David that was promised to reign forever but he reigns over a spiritual kingdom and not an earthly one. His kingdom is now, it is his church, the people of God.

But it also seems a waste of my energy and time to spend too much time on this subject because if I am right or wrong, God is in control and will take care of this as well as all things eternal. What does matter, is if I am putting my trust in Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of God who is my Savior and my King. As I live for him, I am preparing for that home eternal with him and with God the Father.

So each of us must focus on heaven and keep our eyes on Jesus who sits at the right hand of the throne of God. We are to live in such a way that we honor him and his holy name. We are to stand for right and truth and not let sin be a part of our lives. We must use what he has given us to bring glory to him as we help others and not be selfish. In doing these things we lead others to Jesus also.

Heavenly Father it is such a joy to be in your family, your kingdom, your flock, your church, your house. What a blessing to be surrounded by others who love you and seek to live for you. Thank you for the inner peace you give me as I live for you in the assurance that you have forgiven me of all my sin. Fill me with your Spirit so others will see Jesus in me and see your love for all mankind. Guide our leaders in your church as they seek to make decisions in our uncertain time. Be with our nation and those who rule over us. I pray in the name of Jesus.
