Daily Devotional: Psalms 72:15-21

Ps 72:15-20

15 Long may he live! May gold from Sheba be given him. May people ever pray for him and bless him all day long. 16 Let grain abound throughout the land; on the tops of the hills may it sway. Let its fruit flourish like Lebanon; let it thrive like the grass of the field. 17 May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed. 18 Praise be to the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does marvelous deeds. 19 Praise be to his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory. Amen and Amen. 20 This concludes the prayers of David son of Jesse.

1 Peter 2:13-15

13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.

For those who know me, it is no surprise that I have been accused of being strong willed, opinionated and both impassioned and outspoken in my beliefs. But no matter how much we may disagree, we can (and should) still be friends and treat each other with respect. No matter how strongly I believe something to be true, that does not make it true or the standard of truth. Jesus is truth and life.

We may disagree with our officials (local, state or federal) but they have been put in their position by God. So out of respect for God, we are to obey them and their directives for us. If they should ever demand that we disobey God, then of course his directives take precedence and must be followed. Jesus is our Lord!

Too often we allow our traditions to become our truth. We do not like change so we gauge right and wrong based on what we have always done and the way we have done it. With the current distress in our nation, we as Christians are called to do good and silence the ignorant talk of foolish men and women. This is done by showing love, respect and kindness, even to those we believe to be wrong.

Heavenly Father give me wisdom to know the path to follow in my life as I seek to serve you. Keep me focused on being loving, kind and respectful to others. Help me love enough to overlook wrongs. Help me be kind and respectful, even when I am angry or upset by others. Use me to serve others in whatever way is needed. Be with those who have lost loved ones and give them your peace. I ask you to bless those who are sick with healing but if that is not your will, give them faith to deal with it. Stop the Covid-19 virus in your time. I pray in Jesus name.
