Daily Devotional: Psalms 68:28-35

Ps 68:28-35

28 Summon your power, O God; show us your strength, O God, as you have done before. 29 Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring you gifts. 30 Rebuke the beast among the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations. Humbled, may it bring bars of silver. Scatter the nations who delight in war. 31 Envoys will come from Egypt; Cush will submit herself to God. 32 Sing to God, O kingdoms of the earth, sing praise to the Lord, Selah 33 to him who rides the ancient skies above, who thunders with mighty voice. 34 Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the skies. 35 You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!

Rom 15:12-14

12 And again, Isaiah says, "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him." 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.

What a joy to serve the Lord! What a true pleasure to be in the family of God and to know so many who love him and live for him. As each group of God’s people struggles with how to best worship together in the midst of this pandemic, we have seen some very creative and good things happen. The internet and other technologies that have barely been tapped in the work of the Lord are being filled with sermons, Bible classes, encouragements and devotionals. Praise the Lord!

In our entertainment society, we too often make the sermon the focal point and the highlight of our worship together. I think this priority has been misplaced and in our present distress we have seen an emphasis on our personal relationship with Jesus and worship from the heart in song and prayer takes it rightful place. We have also learned to a greater extent that encouraging one another is a vital part of our worship together and sorely needed to help us be faithful.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful that you can use that which seems so bad to us and turn it into an added way of reaching the lost and helping the weak. Thank you for making me more aware of how much other Christians mean to me and how vital they are in my service to you. You have made my love stronger and my desire to assemble greater. Use me and my life in a way that will honor you and bring glory to your name. Thank you for Jesus, my Savior and my Lord. Be with our country and the leaders of the nations. I pray in the name of Christ Jesus.
