Daily Devotional: Psalms 67:1-7

Ps 67:1-7

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, Selah 2 that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. 3 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. 4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. Selah 5 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. 6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. 7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Matt 5:43-45

43 "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

While the United States is not now and has never been the people chosen by God to be his people, we were founded upon his principles. My brother wrote his thesis for his law degree on the similarities between the Judeo-Christian laws of Scripture and the Laws of our founding Fathers. While not all of the founders of our nation were believers in Christ or God, most were and they all respected the principles set forth in the Bible, using these as a guide for the new nation.

You and I cannot change the nation as a whole by ourselves. Even those in power in Washington cannot change it by themselves, though they may alter the course we are taking. What we can do is change our world, the place where we live each day. This begins in our homes and extends outward through our families. We can make a difference in our neighborhoods, our workplaces and things like these.

While I believe prayer in school is a good thing, what is much more important is that we pray in our homes and teach or children to pray. Immorality and violence have mushroomed in recent years in our nation. As long as Jesus is not Lord in our homes it will continue to be rampant. Every time we bring someone to Christ, we have made our world and our nation a better place to live. Jesus is the answer to the problems we face and until he is acknowledged as Lord, they will continue.

Heavenly Father I thank you for this nation and the freedoms I enjoy. Thank you for the wisdom and your guidance in the establishment of our country. As this pandemic continues, I pray that many will recognize you as God and Jesus as both Lord and the Great Physician. I ask you to stop the virus but even more I ask you to convict those who ignore you and seek to live without you. Help me be more devoted to you and to be more like Jesus in all I do and say. I ask your protection on those who are in danger while helping others. I pray in Jesus name.
