Daily Devotional: Psalms 45:7-12

Ps 45:7-12

7 You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy. 8 All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia; from palaces adorned with ivory the music of the strings makes you glad. 9 Daughters of kings are among your honored women; at your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir. 10 Listen, O daughter, consider and give ear: Forget your people and your father's house. 11 The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. 12 The Daughter of Tyre will come with a gift, men of wealth will seek your favor.

1 Peter 1:14-16

14 As obedient children do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

God sends the rain on both the just and the unjust. The sun rises each day to shine on those who love the Lord as well as those who have no regard for him or even those who deny his existence. He blesses his enemies in so many ways.

But at one time we all were enemies of God and he showed his love for us by giving his Son to die for our sin. We were dead in our trespasses and sins but he cared for us and made provision for us to be forgiven and for us to become part of his family. As his children we have many promises not given to the world.

We are told that the peace of God will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives in us as a guarantee of our eternal inheritance. We are promised wisdom from above when we ask. God uses all things for our good, if we love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. His purpose is that we walk in the good deeds he has prepared for us from before the foundation of the world. But even more, his purpose for us is to live with him in eternity.

We live as a part of the Royal family of God. This has many privileges for each of us but it also carries many responsibilities as well. We are to be holy in all we do and say. We are to reflect the glory of Jesus so others will see him in us. To be like him means we are filled with compassion and controlled by God’s love.

O Lord God, giver of all things, even life itself, I am so thankful for the very air I breathe. Thank you for the many things I take for granted as I live in a world filled with all kinds of conveniences and technology. Thank you for the internet that makes it possible for me to sit in my home and send words of encouragement and love to many I have never even met. Instill in me a sense of responsibility to use all you have given me to serve others and to teach your word. Open my eyes to the many possibilities to share your love. I pray in the name of Jesus.
