Daily Devotional: Psalms 22:9-11

Ps 22:9-11

9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.

2 Tim 1:3-7

3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. 4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy. 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

We live in a time when serving God and proclaiming Jesus as Lord is not popular and is even scorned by many. Prayer has been banned in many places that once considered it a necessary part of the program. Bible study is forbidden in most schools while it once was a part of every curriculum. We are told that to speak of our faith in Jesus is offensive so we are to keep quiet. And the trend worsens.

I am not sure times are any worse than they have been in the past. During the days of Jesus on the earth, the Roman government accepted every form of sin and immorality as the norm. The Babylonians were known for their ungodliness, cruelty and polytheism, and both governments proclaimed their leaders as gods.

The world has never been as bad as it was during the days of Noah. In fact, we are told that God was only able to find this one man who was righteous. This means that even his father and grandfather were wicked people. But in this wicked world he raised his children to trust and serve God. While building the ark he was made fun of and mocked for both his actions and his preaching, but never quit. Prayer and Bible study can only be removed from our homes if we take them out. Jesus as our Lord can only be quieted if we allow it to happen. Who can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ our Lord? Only we can do this.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for having parents who loved you and who taught me to love you and serve you. Thank you for the freedoms of our nation that allow us to worship you and to share your gospel. No matter what I face in life, I ask you to help me be faithful to you and your word. Give me a heart and a determination to be obedient to you in all things and to thus honor you. Use me to reach others and help them serve you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
