Daily Devotional: Psalms 20:1-9

Ps 20:1-9

1 May the LORD answer you when you are in distress; may the name of the God of Jacob protect you. 2 May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion. 3 May he remember all your sacrifices and accept your burnt offerings. Selah 4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. 5 We will shout for joy when you are victorious and will lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests. 6 Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. 7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. 8 They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. 9 O LORD, save the king! Answer us when we call!

2 Cor 13:14

14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

God exalted David as king and went with him to battle to give the victory. David always trusted in the Lord and not in his own army or his own strength. He knew all he had was from the Lord and that God was in control.

While we may not be kings and queens in this world, we have been exalted to be the sons and daughters of the creator of the universe. Jesus is our brother and he is King of kings and Lord of lords. There is no one on earth that is above him.

We stand in awe when we consider the glory of God and his majesty. He allows rulers to rule, he raises nations to power and brings them down again. His wisdom is beyond our comprehension. But this exalted one is our God and he loves each one of us, knowing us by name. He sees our daily cares and he knows the sorrows we face. He gives strength, along with a way of escape, when we are tempted.

God is never too occupied to hear our prayer or to answer when we call. In fact, he wants us to offer him our petitions and cast our cares on him. In thanksgiving, we pour out our hearts to him and he listens. Jesus is our Lord but also our friend and our brother and he hears us and intercedes on our behalf. Praise God!

Heavenly Father it is with thanksgiving that I come to you and praise you for all you are. You alone are God and you alone are the one above all else. I praise you for your matchless love and your unspeakable grace. When I consider your holiness and I see my own weakness, I feel worthless before you. But when I am reminded that my life is important enough that you gave Jesus to live and die for me and my sin, I know you have a plan for me and work for me to do. Use me in your service according to your will. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
