Daily Devotional: Psalms 16:1-11

Ps 16:1-11

1 Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. 2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." 3 As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. 4 The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips. 5 LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. 6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. 7 I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. 8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, 10 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy one see decay. 11 You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

1 Cor 15:56-58

56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

“Because He lives, I can face tomorrow. Because He lives, all fear is gone.” As the children of God we can face anything in life and know that something better is on the way. “This world is not my home, I’m just a passing through. My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.” We have been promised the victory over death and life eternal, because we belong to Jesus Christ and he is risen.

Because God has forgiven us of our sin and continues to forgive us as we walk in his light, we can go to bed at night with a clear conscience. As we follow his word, we rid ourselves of all hatred, bitterness and malice, replacing them with mercy, compassion and forgiveness. So not only is my heart right with God but with all others here on earth. God has blessed each of us with a life that just fits his plan and then he empowers us to be all he wants us to become, as we follow him.

O Lord God, creator and sustainer of all things, I am thankful for your plan of redemption and the promise you give of the resurrection in that last day. Thank you for showing us your plan in your word. Give me wisdom as I study the Bible to understand your will better and give me strength to live it. Create in me a pure heart and always give clean hands and lips to honor you in all I do and say. Thank you for this country where I live. Bless our leaders so that we can have peace and more co-operation to follow your will for us. I pray in the name of Jesus.
