Daily Devotional: Psalms 7:1-5

Ps 7:1-5

1 O LORD my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me, 2 or they will tear me like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me. 3 O LORD my God, if I have done this and there is guilt on my hands--4 if I have done evil to him who is at peace with me or without cause have robbed my foe--5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake me; let him trample my life to the ground and make me sleep in the dust. Selah

Matt 8:23-27

23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!" 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"

I heard someone say that truth seldom ever lies at extremes but is rather most often found near the middle. When people hold extreme positions and those who follow them begin to question the validity of the arguments, they often go to the opposite extreme, rather than settle for the actual truth. In the world of religion there are many false extreme positions that have come about because of this reaction to the opposite false extremes.

The search for truth must be guided by a willingness to calmly examine and correctly divide the scriptures without regard to what others are teaching. This is not always easy to do because we are all influenced by what we have read and been taught. This means we must be honest with ourselves, what we believe and why we believe it. Truth is not determined by mankind but by the word of God.

There is no limit to the power of God! We may place our limits on him by our lack of faith or unwillingness to humbly pray, but his power doesn’t change. When we trust God and live for him, he has promised to work all things for our good. He will forgive our sin and keep us safe on our journey to our heavenly home.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for your love and your willingness to forgive me in Jesus Christ. Increase my faith as I daily face life with all of the problems and trials it brings to me. I want to keep my eyes focused on you and on doing what is right according to your word. Give me an honest heart and a searching mind to find, to know and to live your truth in all things. Help me love you more than life and to love others more than I love myself. Lord, this life is filled with suffering so I ask you to use me to help others find peace. I pray in the name of Jesus.
