Daily Devotional: Psalms 144:1-4

Ps 144:1-4

1 Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. 2 He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. 3 O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? 4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.

Heb 2:14-18

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-that is, the devil- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

In the overall scheme of things from God’s perspective, it would seem that all of mankind would be so insignificant that he would hardly notice us or do anything for us. We are only a very small part of his creation with no real value to him. Yet, in his love he cares about us and wants what is best for us. He very strongly wants us to trust him and serve him now so we can live with him in eternity.

It is for this reason that God made Jesus, his unique Son, to be one of us, with all the frailties and trials we face in life. He faced all of the temptations we face, all of the heartaches, all of the mistreatments and unfairness of life and yet, he did it all without giving in and without sinning. His trust in the Father was unwavering.

Jesus is our hope. By his death for our sin he has made it possible for us to be the children of God, to be his brothers and sisters. Since he has been where we are, he now intercedes with the Father for us and does so with understanding of our plight, our sorrows and our weakness. He is our Lord but also our High Priest. As we put our trust in him and live for him, his blood continues to forgive us.

Heavenly Father increase my faith, strengthen my love and give me your wisdom as I seek to be like you. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and his righteousness. I never trust my own wisdom or my own works but lean entirely on Jesus name. Help me open my heart and yield to your Spirit in every part of my life. Fan the flames of my heart so I will serve you in every part of my life. Use me to help others serve you and be faithful to you. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory. Be with our nation and guide our elections that we will have leaders who will look to you for wisdom. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
