Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:49-56

Ps 119:49-56                       Zayin

49 Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. 50 My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life. 51 The arrogant mock me without restraint, but I do not turn from your law. 52 I remember your ancient laws, O LORD, and I find comfort in them. 53 Indignation grips me because of the wicked, who have forsaken your law. 54 Your decrees are the theme of my song wherever I lodge. 55 In the night I remember your name, O LORD, and I will keep your law. 56 This has been my practice: I obey your precepts.

1 Peter 4:14-16

14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.

Being born with privilege carries responsibilities. One who is born into a royal family has many privileges and opportunities that others will never know. But being born into that same family carries tremendous responsibilities in all that is done or said. Many of the everyday freedoms that you and I enjoy are not given to them because of their royal birth. They are controlled by their heritage.

You and I are children of the God of the universe and thus we are a part of the Royal family. We are not free to live in sin as the world around us lives. They are children of the devil and have no regard for the heritage of our Father. When we were born again, we became a special people controlled by God’s will. Everything we do or say is a reflection on our Father and our brother who is King of kings.

There will be times we will suffer because of who we are. People will make fun of us and ridicule us because we do not participate with them in their sin. Some may try to harm us because we make them uncomfortable when we seek to do what is right and not go along with the crowd. But we find comfort in the word of God and in his promises for us, both now and in eternity. We find strength as we allow his Spirit to live in us and mold us into his image. Praise God, we are his children!

Heavenly Father I am so thankful to be your child. Help me live every moment of every day in a way that honors your holy name and brings glory to you. Help me live so others will see Jesus living in me and see the joy and peace that controls my life and thus will want to follow you also. Give your healing where it is your will and give your peace and comfort to those who are suffering and to those who are grieving. Help me show your love in all I do and say as I make it my practice to always follow your will in my life. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
