Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:15-21

Ps 118:15-21

15 Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! 16 The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right hand has done mighty things!" 17 I will not die but live and will proclaim what the LORD has done. 18 The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. 19 Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. 20 This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. 21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.

Col 3:15-17

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

What a joy to be a Christian! To know that we belong to the God of heaven and to know our sins have been forgiven by the blood of his Son, these are blessings that are greater than words can tell. It is because we are his that we can let his peace rule in our hearts and rejoice in all things. Because we have been saved, we can always give thanks for everything. As his children we do all things in the name of our Lord Jesus. We let our lights shine to honor him and to glorify the Father.

There is an old hymn that says we are to count our blessings and name them one by one. Since we have all been blessed in ways which we don’t even know, we cannot name them all. Our blessings are so great that they can’t be counted or named. Yet, as we rehearse what God has done in our lives and we try to see how he has blessed us, we are made more aware of his goodness, his power and his majesty. We are made to be more grateful, even for the times we have been chastened or faced problems that allowed us to grow. As our trust in God grows, we are able to let his peace rule in our hearts and thus in our relationships.

Heavenly Father I am so thankful for all you have done for me and continue to do for me every day. There have been some very dark hours in my life but you have given me light. At times when I did not know where to go next or where life was taking me, you gave your wisdom and you guided me safely through. I have seen your healing but have also been made to trust you and your love when others were not physically healed but left this life to be with you. Thank you for your love and your salvation and your peace in Jesus Christ. In his name I pray.
