Daily Devotional: Psalms 93:1-5

Ps. 93:1-5

1 The LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty; the LORD is robed in majesty and is armed with strength. The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved. 2 Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity. 3 The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice; the seas have lifted up their pounding waves. 4 Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea--the LORD on high is mighty. 5 Your statutes stand firm; holiness adorns your house for endless days, O LORD.

Matt. 5:17-20

17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

States, cities and towns on the coasts, near the oceans have special building codes for all structures being built that are designed to withstand the raging seas. If one lives near the ocean, it is not a matter of “if” a storm will come but when and how often it will hit. It is necessary to be ready to face it or leave. But no matter what the codes say or how much preparation is made, when a really big hurricane hits, the structures are demolished. Humans cannot withstand the power of God!

On a normal day at the beach, one can sit and watch the waves and they will only come in so far, the flow stops and is reversed. No matter how big a wave looks as it is seen coming, it stops at approximately the same place as the seemingly small waves before and after it. God has set the boundaries of the seas and only he can change their course. The power and wisdom of God is seen in every wave.

This same God is in control of our lives and the storms of life that threaten us, but with every wave that comes, he also provides a float to save us. When we trust him, we can know that even if this life is brought to an “untimely” end, we will be with him in eternity. Thank God for salvation in Jesus his Son!

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your mighty power and the wisdom you show in all you do for each of us on this earth. Give me greater faith to trust you, obey your word and to live in a way that brings glory to your name. Help me keep my eyes focused on you so I will not be distracted by the storms of life and the waves that rage around me. I ask a special prayer for my country and our leaders that peace and love will prevail. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
