Please note: There will be  no devotionals tomorrow.

Ps 86:1-7

1 Hear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. 2 Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you. 3 Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long. 4 Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul. 5 You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you. 6 Hear my prayer, O LORD; listen to my cry for mercy. 7 In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.

John 15:9-13

9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.

David knew he needed God and was pleading with him to help him in his distress. He had enemies who did not respect God and were seeking his life. He began his prayer with a personal confession of trust in God and dependence on God. David realized that he was King of Israel only because God chose him and put him there. It was his hearts desire to serve God and to bring glory to the name of God.

We all need God, every hour of every day. We must realize that we are children of God only by his grace. We cannot have this privilege by our own devices or by our own doing. As his children, he has promised to take care of us and protect us from evil. This does not mean we will never face problems but it does mean that God will use whatever we face to teach us, to remind us and to mold us in his likeness. He also allows us to face trials so we will be better suited to help others who face the same trials. He is a God of compassion and God of all comforts.

God will always take care of his end of the bargain. Our place is to trust him with no doubts and then live according to his will the very best we can. But even when we have the heart of David, we still will sin and need his forgiveness. David, a man after God’s own heart, asks for forgiveness and mercy. We do the same today.

Heavenly Father, God of compassion, mercy and love, it is only by your grace that I can call you my Father and Jesus my Savior. Help me always set Jesus apart in my heart as my Lord so I will listen to your revealed word, understand it and apply it in every part of my life. Help me remember that serving you is not a separate compartment in my life, but to understand that serving you includes every part of my life, every moment of it. Give me wisdom to see opportunities that come to serve you by serving others. Keep me from being selfish with what you have given me but use it to your glory. I pray in the name of Jesus.
