Daily Devotional: Psalms 67:1-7

Ps 67:1-7

1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, Selah 2 that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. 3 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. 4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. Selah 5 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. 6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us. 7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

1 Thess. 5:15-24

15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. 16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

When I would forget about God or when I would try to pretend that he does not exist or cannot be found, I am reminded of his majesty by the stars in the heavens and by the rising of the sun each day. His glory is seen in the little bird that sings each morning and the playful rabbit in the field. The flowers that bloom along side the roads and in the wild tell of his goodness and his love for beauty.

But most of all, when I begin to doubt, I am reminded of all the wonderful things that he has done in my life and in the lives of so many I know and love. His great blessings are beyond my ability to understand. When there was no way to make things work, everything fell into place and the end was better than my dreams of how it could be. What seemed at the time to be tragedy, turned out to help me know him better and love him more. His wonderful love endures forever. Most of all, when I failed to be all he made me to be, he has been gracious and forgiving and has restored me into his fellowship as his beloved child. God is good.

O Lord God, giver of life and breath, it is such a privilege to be able to know you and to serve you. Increase my faith and keep me from ever doubting you and your goodness. As I see your handiwork in all of your creation, I stand in awe of your greatness and majesty and realize again just how small I am. When I begin to be proud of what I think I have done or become, I am reminded that it is all by your grace and not my own doing. I know I am nothing without you. Fill me with your compassion and love toward others. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
