Daily Devotional: Psalms 65:8-13

Ps 65:8-13

8 Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy. 9 You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. 10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. 11 You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. 12 The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. 13 The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Acts 17:24-27

24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

There are many in the world now, as well as in the past, who have chosen to serve a god that is made in human likeness. The problem with this is that these gods are flawed with all of the human frailties and are controlled by human lusts. However, this allows those who serve these gods the freedom to indulge in the desires of the flesh with a clear conscience. But this worship only leads to frustration, sorrow, pain and eventually death (both physical and spiritual).

The other choice we have is to serve the God who made the world and all that is in it. This includes all mankind who have been made in the likeness of God. For us to serve this God leads us to become more like him which constantly raises our lifestyle and the standard by which we live. As we serve him, his Spirit lives in us and is constantly molding us so to demonstrate his love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. This yields life eternal.

Heavenly Father, with joy and thanksgiving I come to you today to praise your wonderful and holy name. You are the giver of life and creator of all things. Your majesty is supreme in all the earth. Give me greater faith and a more yielding spirit to seek to do your will in every part of my life. There are dear friends of mine who have lost those they love, and I ask your special blessings on each one as they look to you for comfort. Others are taking treatments and I ask that these will be successful but most of all I ask for your healing power on them. Forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to become. I pray in the name of Jesus.
