Daily Devotional: Psalms 64:6-10

Ps 64:6-10

6 They plot injustice and say, "We have devised a perfect plan!" Surely the mind and heart of man are cunning. 7 But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be struck down. 8 He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. 9 All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. 10 Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him; let all the upright in heart praise him!

Rom 1:18-20

18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

All who oppose God will be punished. Because of their pride, many have believed and lived in a way that denies the Lord God and his right to judge. Some have denied him as God while others believe they will be able to argue their case before him and somehow escape his judgment. Many believe that since he is a God of love that he will just ignore sin and pardon all who have mocked him and his word. His nature requires justice which demands punishment for sin.

But he is a God of love. As a part of his nature, God is love. His love is so strong that he gave his Son to die for our sin. Since we all have sinned, he saves us from death by his grace. But his grace teaches us to accept Jesus as our Savior and to set him apart as Lord in our lives. Saving faith demands that we put him on in baptism and then live for him as a new person in his family.

We praise him today because he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of his Son. As we live for him, we rejoice in our salvation. He has given us his Spirit to guide us, protect us and lead us with his wisdom to become partakers of his divine nature. He is our Lord and God.

Heavenly Father, in the name of your Son, our Lord and our Savior, Jesus, I come to you today with praise and thanksgiving. What a wonderful opportunity you have given me to be free from the guilt of sin and to be counted as righteous in your sight! Thank you for your wonderful love, your marvelous grace. Fill me with your love and compassion so I will seek to help others and make my life about serving you by serving those around me. Help me always count others better than myself. Thank you for my spiritual family and the help they give me.
