Daily Devotional: Psalms 56:8-13

Ps 56:8-13

8 Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll--are they not in your record? 9 Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me. 10 In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise--11 in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 12 I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you. 13 For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Rom 8:28, 31

28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Nothing is off limits when we talk to God. Since he already knows what is on our hearts, even the deep secrets of our souls, it is a sign of trust on our part to open up and express it to him. It may be our fears, our anxieties or that temptation that is so hard for us to overcome. It may be the feelings of bitterness or hurt that we have toward someone else or the disappointments that darken our spirits. God is always open to our conversation because he wants to help us have the best life possible that will prepare us for eternity and help others on their journey.

As the psalmist, we need to always be giving thanks and praising God. In the midst of trials, we should be thankful for his love, his concern and his constant care for us. We can be thankful for his answer to our prayers, even before we see or know his response because we know he will answer for our good. We can rejoice, even in suffering because he will see us through it and never leave us alone.

What a pleasure to be a child of God! What a joy to always be in his care! We can rejoice because our sins are forgiven, and we are on our way to that eternal home with Jesus, with the Father and with all the redeemed of the ages before us. This is the reason we are alive on this earth; to show our trust in Jesus as the Son of God and as our Savior and then to share this good news with others around us.

Heavenly Father, you know my heart and the things that concern me as well as the joys that abound from within. Help me keep my priorities straight, keep my eyes on Jesus and my heart set on serving you as I serve others. I need you every hour to give me wisdom and strength to be what you want me to be. Too often I put off doing things that I should be doing for you. Please forgive me and instill in me the urgency to get these things done while I have time. Give your peace and your healing to those who are sick, taking treatments or having surgeries. Thank you for all you do for me every day. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
