Daily Devotional: Psalms 55:9-15

Ps 55:9-15

9 Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city. 10 Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it. 11 Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets. 12 If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. 13 But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, 14 with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God. 15 Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the grave, for evil finds lodging among them.

Rev 7:13-17

13 Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes-who are they, and where did they come from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 15 Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

There is an old gospel song that has the words: “What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see. When I look upon His face, the one who saved me by His grace; what a day, glorious day that will be.” There is coming a time for the redeemed, that no matter what we have faced here on earth, the worst will not compare with the glory of that eternal abode. Being in the presence of God and being able to look at the face of our Savior, will be the most glorious time of our existence.

This is what our lives are about; getting ready for eternity. We do this as we trust in Jesus and devote our lives to him and his will. Jesus said if we love him, we will obey him. The best part of this is that he only wants what is best for us.

O Lord God, as I read of your heavenly throne and the glory of your Son, I stand in wonder, anticipating the reality of being with you forever. Increase my faith, give me wisdom and fill me with your Spirit. Help me know your love as shown to me in the sacrifice of Jesus so I will love you in return and love others around me. Use me to do your work here on earth. Help me remember that in whatever good I may be able to accomplish, that you are the one to receive the honor and glory, not me. I humbly pray as I come to you in the name of Jesus.
