Daily Devotional: Psalms 51:13-19

Ps 51:13-19

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. 14 Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. 15 O Lord open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 18 In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. 19 Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar.

2 Peter 1:3-4

3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

What has God given us? When we are in Christ, he has given us everything we need now and in eternity. Paul said that we have all spiritual blessings in Jesus Christ our Lord. He also says that God has given us his word which is able to make us perfect and equip us for every good work. Peter tells us that in Jesus we can become partakers of the divine nature. This is another way of saying that we have the fruit of the Spirit in our hearts and in our lives.

What does God want from us in return for his love and all he has done for us by giving his Son on the cross? God has spared nothing for our good and to make it possible for us to live with him in eternity. In return he wants us to give ourselves to him without any reservations. God has great delight when we turn from sin and we love him and love all that is right and good.

When we turn from sin and live for God, we not only have his forgiveness, but we find peace of mind and a joy that is indescribable in our hearts. The more we give, the more we find happiness and are then able to share Jesus with others.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love and your eternal wisdom that is seen in Jesus, his sacrifice on my behalf and his resurrection that promises me that I too will be raised and can be with you in eternity. Help me keep my eyes on Jesus and my heart on the things above. I need your constant forgiveness. I need your strength to help me be what you want me to become. I need your wisdom to know how to live for you. Keep me from judging but use me to help others to want to serve you and live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
