Daily Devotional: Psalms 44:23-26

Ps 44:23-26

23 Awake, O Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever. 24 Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression? 25 We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground. 26 Rise up and help us; redeem us because of your unfailing love.

1 Peter 1:3-6

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

The people of the Old Testament lived in a time that only a small portion of the scriptures had been revealed. They had promises of an eternal home. They had veiled prophecies of the coming Messiah, but they did not enjoy the competed revelation as we have today. Yet, without the completed word of God, they still trusted him and lived for him. Their faith was beyond amazing.

Jesus is the Word of God. He is the exact representation of God. He came to earth and lived as one of us, only to die for our sins. While there are things we do not and cannot understand in the Bible, we have been given all we need to know to live for God and with him in eternity. It is in Jesus that God has revealed the hidden mysteries of the past and the eternal promises of the future. He is the only way, he is eternal life and he is the truth. Eternal life is only in Jesus.

In this life we may face all kinds of problems. Each new crisis presents us with new temptations. Each bad thing that happens challenges our faith. Some of these are for a few moments and others may last for years or even our lifetime. With every trial, with every temptation, God promises to give us strength through the Holy Spirit, and a way to deal with what we are facing. His wisdom is available for the asking. And the aid of Jesus as our intercessor is always present.

I come to you Lord God, with humble heart and a realization of just how small I am in your presence. You have created all things and give life and breath to all that is living. It is your power and wisdom that gives us the changing seasons each year and the rain or sunshine each day. You have shown your love in the beauty of the birds, the flowers and the soft brooks running in the meadows. But most of all, you have given your Son for my sin, so I can live with you forever. Thank you for giving the revelation of your will in your word. I pray in Jesus name.
