Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:6-11

Ps 33:6-11

6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.

John 1:10-13

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

Nothing could be more incongruous than we, as God creation, refusing to honor him as God and serve him. The prophets often spoke of the freshly made pot asking the potter why he had made him in the form he had been made to show the foolishness of such a thing. Yet, some of the most brilliant minds (in the view of the world) have denied the existence of God.

Paul said the wisdom of the world is foolishness to God. The wise man said the beginning of true wisdom is the fear of the Lord. Any philosophy of life that does not revere God and does not seek to obey him is foolish indeed. David wrote that “the fool has said in his heart, there is no God”.

Every part of creation cries out for intelligent design and thus a designer. There is nothing that is less scientific than the many theories of evolution which seek to tell us that all the harmony of the universe happened by accident. In the perfect predictability of the heavenly bodies, the intricate workings of the human eye and in the love and protection of a mother (both human and otherwise) for their young, we see just a small glimpse of a wisdom far beyond our own. In his wisdom, he has made it possible through his Son, for us to with him in eternity.

Our Father who is in heaven, holy and reverend is your name in all the earth. You have made me, and you own me so help me yield to you, to your word in humble obedience. Fill me with your Spirit so I can be molded into your likeness. Create in me a pure heart and clean lips. Lord, there are so many who are seeking to serve you and who face daily persecution. I ask your protection for them. Even more, I ask your strength for them to remain faithful to you. Thank you for the freedoms I enjoy. Help me use them to your glory. I pray in the name of Jesus.
