Daily Devotional: Psalms 25:1-7

Ps 25:1-7

1 To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul; 2 in you I trust, O my God. Do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse. 4 Show me your ways, O LORD, teach me your paths; 5 guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. 6 Remember, O LORD, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old. 7 Remember not the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you are good, O LORD.

1 Cor 2:14-16

14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 16 "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.

When one makes the good confession that Jesus is the Christ and he is our Lord, we are making a commitment to know his will. When one becomes a Christian, they are not just putting their name on a roll at some church, they are making a change that effects every part of their lives. Since we are taking the name of Christ, we are giving him our hearts and our lives to let him rule over us and to make us like him. This requires that we study his word to know his will.

He will lead us in paths that are straight. He is truth so all we learn from him is truth. God is love so all he instills in us is love. He is a righteous God so his word will instruct us in righteousness while correcting our wrong ways.

Our desire to know him and follow his will is an act of faith. We put our trust in him in every part of our lives. John teaches us that it is inconsistent to say we trust him but not obey his word. Jesus says the wise man builds his house on a solid foundation of rock and he is that rock. If our trust is not in Jesus as our Lord and our master, when the storms of life come, our lives will fall apart.

My Lord and my God who is supreme and rules over all things, I come to you in deep humility but with confidence in Jesus my Savior. What a joy to be able to know that you are my Father and that you love me and always take care of me. I praise your holy name! Increase my faith so I will follow your will in every part of my life. Give me strength to overcome every temptation. Use me to teach others, both by my words and by my example. Help me remember that all I am and all I have is from you and is not my own doing. I pray in the name of Jesus.
