Daily Devotional: Psalms 24:1-6

Ps 24:1-6

1 The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; 2 for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters. 3 Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. 5 He will receive blessing from the LORD and vindication from God his Savior. 6 Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob. Acts 17:29-31

29 "Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone-an image made by man's design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead."

When we consider the power and majesty of God, who are we to think that we could come in his presence and be recognized by him? He spoke the world into existence, and all that we see around us. He laid out the heavenly bodies, each in its own place and he created the ocean depths with all their living creatures where each has his hiding place. He created our physical bodies, with all of the interworking that the greatest minds still seek to understand.

Behind the power and majesty of our God is his omniscience and his wisdom that is unfathomable to our minds. It is this wisdom that planned the universe and gave us life. This same wisdom devised a plan whereby we mortals can live with him in eternity, in a place that is free from all of the hardships, the pain, the evil and the sickness that prevails in our world. His plan for us is that we will have new glorified bodies that are immortal where we can live forever in his presence.

We can be with him because he gave his Son to die in our place, so we can live with him in eternity. Our sin has been punished by the death of Jesus so we can be made righteous in him. This gift of grace is for those who trust and obey him.

Heavenly Father, I cannot even begin to understand your power, your majesty, your great wisdom or your marvelous love. It is beyond my mind to grasp how you can forgive me, when I have sinned against you and you had to give your beloved Son to die in my place. It seems to me that this sacrifice would make it even more difficult to forgive but your mercy, compassion, love and grace are far beyond my ability to truly grasp. I owe you my very being so use me in your will and mold me into your image. I pray in the name of Jesus my Redeemer.
