Daily Devotional: Psalms 19:7-11

Ps 19:7-11

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the LORD are sure and altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11 By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

2 Tim 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God knows best. His word is given to us so that we can become like him. It is in keeping the word of the Lord that we find true happiness. This is why Paul says we are to rejoice in the Lord always. As we follow the will of God we find peace that surpasses understanding. As we mature spiritually, we find that following the commands of God protects us as well as directing us.

Satan would have us believe that God just wants to make our lives difficult and devoid of any fun or happiness. So instead of offering a lasting peace and joy, he offers a short lived “fun” that more often than not, only brings misery, pain and trouble in our lives. He told Eve that the forbidden fruit would not cause them to die but rather would make them wise and understanding. This is why he is called the great deceiver and the father of all lies.

All Scripture is given by God and it trains us in every way. There are times that it shows us what is wrong and other times it points us in the right way. But by following it we are warned of dangers in life and are provided with all we need to be complete in Jesus. We find comfort in times of trouble and we find hope when it seems that life has fallen in on us. We must have the utmost respect for the word of God as it will be our standard of judgment.

Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing your word to me. Thank you for telling me about you, your nature and your expectations for me. Thank you for giving me a light for my pathway and warnings when danger is in my way. Give me wisdom to understand your will and strength to put it into practice. Give me a devoted heart to study your word and a willingness to respect what you say by living it on a daily basis. Give me wisdom to be able to teach others your truth and to do so in a spirit of love and genuine concern. I am ever mindful of those who suffer for serving you and ask your blessings on them. I pray in the name of Jesus.
