Daily Devotional: Psalms 17:6-15

Ps 17:6-15

6 I call on you, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. 7 Show the wonder of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. 8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings 9 from the wicked who assail me, from my mortal enemies who surround me. 10 They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance. 11 They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground. 12 They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a great lion crouching in cover. 13 Rise up, O LORD, confront them, bring them down; rescue me from the wicked by your sword. 14 O LORD, by your hand save me from such men, from men of this world whose reward is in this life. You still the hunger of those you cherish; their sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.

 

Eph 3:20-21

20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

 

Have you ever noticed that most of the news that is reported is bad news? Good news does not sell and the media is about making money. When someone says, “let me tell you about _____”, it is seldom going to be praise or what that person has done that is really good (unless it is a grandparent talking). We live in a world that is filled with negativity. Ever since the world was cursed because of sin, evil has prevailed and people have continued in it from one generation to the next.

 

But for those of us who are Christians, we live in a world that is filled with hope, with promise and with the assurance that God is the victor in Jesus Christ. For us it is not doom and gloom but the promise of glory and bliss. Sure, we will face problems, we may even be persecuted for our faith but just because we live in this world does not mean we are of the world or that we have to accept the attitudes of the world. What a blessing to be in Jesus and serve him!

 

Lord God, I am so thankful for your marvelous love shown to me in more ways than I can possibly count or even know. Thank you for the forgiveness in Jesus your Son. Thank you for taking care of me every day and guiding my life to carry out your will and to use me in your service. Continue to mold me into your image and use me to your glory. Thank you for the promise of heaven. To actually be in your presence and to see you in your glory is beyond my imagination. Give me wisdom to help others and to honor your name. I pray in the name of Jesus.
