Daily Devotional: Psalms 12:1-4

Ps 12:1-4

1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. 2 Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception. 3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue 4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips--who is our master?"

Heb 11:6-7

6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. 7 By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

It is easy for us to look around and wonder if anyone really cares about God. We compare ourselves with the wicked city of Sodom where God could not find even five righteous people in order to spare the city. We see the time of Noah when the whole world was wicked and even their thoughts were evil. In our society today we read or hear the news and all we see is violence, hatred and all kinds of ungodly behavior. The immoral are held up as examples for us to follow while those who profess faith in God are ridiculed and scorned.

Then we are reminded that as with the prophet who declared he was the only one left who feared and served God, that there were many more still in his service and who were doing his will. There are many all over the world who are seeking to live for the Lord and share his gospel with the lost around them.

Many of us have made resolutions for the New Year. One resolution we all need to make is that we be more diligent in sharing the gospel of Jesus with those around us. We do live in a world where many don’t know the Lord but there are many of these who are seeking to know him and want to come to him. Each of us should resolve to be committed in our faith and be willing to share it with others. James says that a faith that does not do or act is not a saving faith. It is not enough for us to just say we believe in God and then not really honor, respect and obey him as God or Jesus as our Savior and as our Sovereign Lord.

O Mighty God, creator of heaven and earth and all that exists, I come to you with deep humility, recognizing you are God and that I am but a speck in your great creation. I also realize that I have sinned against you as I have often failed to live up to your glory. I am so thankful for your love, your compassion, your mercy and your grace extended to me in Jesus your Son. As I accept your forgiveness and allow your Spirit to work in me, help me become more like you so that my nature is molded to be like yours in every way. I pray in the name of Jesus.
