Daily Devotional: Psalms 7:6-13

Ps 7:6-13

6 Arise, O LORD, in your anger; rise up against the rage of my enemies. Awake, my God; decree justice. 7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you. Rule over them from on high; 8 let the LORD judge the peoples. Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, according to my integrity, O Most High. 9 O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. 10 My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright in heart. 11 God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day. 12 If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. 13 He has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.

Rom 8:35-39

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

We live in a world that is filled with violence, corruption, greed and all kinds of evil but that is nothing new. Since Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit in the garden, people have chosen to sin and go their own way instead of serving God and following him. There are many nations worse than ours as people invent ways of rebelling against God. He allows us to make our choices but the consequences of sin are still the same: “the wages of sin is death.”

Thanks be to God that he loves us and gave his Son to die for our sin while we were his enemies. This love is indescribable, immense beyond our imagination. He allowed his Son to suffer the punishment for our sin so that we can be counted as righteous in him and receive the free gift of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus.

Yes, Lord God, I am forever thankful for your tremendous love shown to me in more ways than I can possibly count or even know. I know I have sinned against you in so many ways but I want to be like you and live for you. Thank you for your forgiveness in Jesus my Lord. Help me keep my eyes on you, on Jesus and on the things above as I live in this world filled with sin. Don’t ever let me think that this world is my home or that I am here for the things of this life. Please be with those who are hurting and are sick. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
