Daily Devotional: Psalms 139:13-18

Ps 139:13-18

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. 14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. When I awake, I am still with you.

1 Cor 13:12-13

12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

God knows you and he knows me. What a wonderful thought this is as we face each new day. We all have friends that we get to know really well. Some of them we have grown up with and have known all our lives. We know them and they know us. God has known us since before we were born and has been with us each day of our lives. There is none who knows us better than the Lord. His knowledge is not limited to what we do or say. He knows why we do it or why we say it.

What makes this really wonderful is that he is guiding us along the way. When we become his child in Jesus Christ, he gives us his Spirit to live in us and help us become more like him each day. When we allow the fire of the Spirit to burn in us, he changes our hearts and our minds to conform to his image. It is when we become more like him inside that our actions conform to his will. Along with the wisdom to live for him, he gives us the strength to overcome every trial we face in life. His protection guards us so that we never face anything for which he does not provide a way of escape. It was with this assurance that Paul said he could do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthened him. We can too!

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I am so thankful for all you give me each day. I thank you for your constant care and protection in my life. Thank you for your Spirit who guides me, gives me your wisdom and empowers me to live for you and to become more like you. Help me to know each opportunity you provide in my life and to use each for your glory. Don’t let me ever forget that I am what I am because of your grace and mercy toward me and not because of anything I have accomplished on my own. Help me share your love with everyone with whom I come in contact and to use this love to counteract the hatred and the bitterness that fills our world. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior and my Lord.
