Daily Devotional: Psalms 132:1-9

Ps 132:1-9

1 O LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured. 2 He swore an oath to the LORD and made a vow to the Mighty one of Jacob: 3 "I will not enter my house or go to my bed--4 I will allow no sleep to my eyes, no slumber to my eyelids, 5 till I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty one of Jacob." 6 We heard it in Ephrathah, we came upon it in the fields of Jaar: 7 "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool--8 arise, O LORD, and come to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. 9 May your priests be clothed with righteousness; may your saints sing for joy."

Heb 10:8-9, 19-22

8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). 9 Then he said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second... 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

While Solomon built a temple so magnificent that we cannot even imagine the real beauty of it, we have a temple that is even greater. As the people of God, the church of God, the family of God, we are his temple and he dwells in us. While the temple of old was a symbol of heaven itself, we have a High Priest who has gone into the reality of heaven and is seated at the right hand of God and intercedes on our behalf. His sacrifice for us is one time for all time and his salvation is eternal.

We must live in such a way that we let our lights shine as we reflect the glory of God living in us. We are to be holy because he is holy. We are to love because he is love. We are to be merciful because he is merciful. We forgive because he has forgiven us – forgiven by grace and more than we can even know.

Heavenly Father, it is with great humility that I come to you today in prayer. I know that I deserve nothing good from your hand and certainly not the right to speak to you. Yet, because of your great love and the sacrifice of Jesus I know I can come to you in confidence, knowing you will hear me and respond. Give me faith to accept your will and live it in my life. Give me wisdom to know how to apply your word and strength to live it. Help me as a part of your church to do my part that your name will be honored and Jesus will be made attractive to those around me. Thank you for loving me. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
