Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:97-104

Ps 119:97-104         Mem

97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. 98 Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. 100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. 101 I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. 102 I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.

2 Tim 3:12-15

12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

God’s word will always lead us in the right path. God made us and he knows what is best for us in every situation we face in life. We not only find direction in his word but we also find comfort when we are downhearted and we find peace when we are distressed. His word is filled with promises to us that give us hope and give us reason to live. As Jesus once said, he came to give us life and to give it abundantly. The apostle Paul says were are to rejoice always in Jesus Christ because he is ever near to us. In him we have peace and assurance.

This does not mean he will take away all of our problems. We will still be tempted to sin and we will have to endure sickness and heartaches. Our family and friends will die, as will we one day. It may be a quiet peaceful parting or it may involve some great tragedy and trauma but God will be with us in and through it. He has promised to be with us, to give us strength and to impart his peace in our hearts as we face each trial. He will never allow us to face life (or death) alone.

Lord God, my heavenly Father, I am so thankful for the many promises you have given in your word. Help me live in such a way that I will be what you want me to be and thus will do what you want me to do. I realize that I can never earn a single blessing from you but as your child I want to be like you so I seek to do your will in all things. Use me to lead others to you and to help them serve you. Give me a pure heart and a determined spirit to serve you by serving others so my life will bring glory to you and to Jesus Christ. Please be with those who are sick and those who have lost loved ones. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
