Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:22-29

Ps 118:22-29

22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; 23 the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 25 O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you. 27 The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. 28 You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you. 29 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Rom 11:33-36

33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! 34 "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" 35 "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?" 36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Only God could devise a plan to defeat the devil by using a baby, born to a poor girl who was engaged to a carpenter. How could a peasant, born in a barn, save the people of God? The prophets had promised a king from the lineage of David; one who would be a mighty ruler that none could defeat.

So when Jesus came into the world, he was despised and rejected of men. The one person God had chosen to become the capstone of his temple would be rejected by those who seemed to be in control. When Jesus died on the cross, it was a day of gloom and seemed to be a day of defeat for his disciples. They did not understand the resurrection day was coming or the nature of his spiritual kingdom. The day that seemed to be the worst in history was a day made by the Lord and was a marvelous day in which we all rejoice. It was his death and his resurrection that defeated death and gives us promise of eternal life.

God guided and used David for his plan in his day. God will guide us and use us in his plan in our day. We are not physical kings but we are children of the God of heaven and earth and he has promised to be with us and protect us.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love and for all you do for me. Your love endures forever and in ways beyond understanding. I praise you for your wisdom and knowledge. Help me follow your will in all things. Lord, please be with our nation and with our leaders that we may live in peace. I ask your care in a special way for those taking treatments for cancer. Be with those who have disabling diseases and give them strength, patience and greater faith. Be with the caregivers of these and the aged. I pray in the name of Jesus.
