Daily Devotional: Psalms 118:1-7

Ps 118:1-7

1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let Israel say: "His love endures forever." 3 Let the house of Aaron say: "His love endures forever." 4 Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever." 5 In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. 6 The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? 7 The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies.

Heb 13:15-16

15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise-the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

Counting our blessings and trusting God to take care of us will not necessarily take away our pain, sickness, hurt or depression. Having a positive mental attitude about things (whether just from an attitude perspective or through our faith) will not heal our problems. But when we see all God has done for us and when we trust him without reservation, he will give us strength to endure and motivation to carry on. In the midst of our trials, he gives us joy in the Lord and gives us a peace that is beyond our comprehension. His love endures forever.

His love does not overlook sin. His love provides a way for us to be forgiven of our sin and then help to change our lives and overcome the sin that has entangled us and kept us in bondage. His love is what prompted him to have compassion on all of mankind so in his mercy he gave his special Son to die in our place. Paul tells us that God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Any violation of the will of God is sin and the wages of sin is death – spiritual eternal death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. It is in this sacrifice of Jesus that we put our hope and living in him we have assurance that our sins are forgiven.

In him we trust, today, tomorrow and for all time. In him we trust for eternity. All spiritual blessings are in Jesus Christ. In our love for him we turn from sin, we are baptized into Jesus Christ and all of sins are washed away in his blood.

I am so thankful to you O Lord for your matchless love, your great mercy and your marvelous grace in Jesus Christ. You saved me when I could not save myself. You have empowered me by your Spirit to live for you. Increase my faith so I don’t fret or worry over things of this life but help me always remember that I am here for only a short time and every day is preparation for being with you in eternity. Give me your peace and help me have and show the joy of your salvation. Bless those who are sick, hurting and in distress. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
