Daily Devotional: Psalms 116:1-6

Ps 116:1-6

1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. 2 Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow. 4 Then I called on the name of the LORD: "O LORD, save me!" 5 The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. 6 The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me.

John 16:33

33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

Rom 15:13

13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Lord is gracious and righteous, he is full of compassion. He protects us and never allows us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear but with every temptation he provides a way of escape. He gives us strength beyond our on ability to overcome sin in our lives. One of the things listed as a part of the fruit of the Spirit is self-control. When the Spirit of God is allowed free reign in our hearts and in our lives, we control the desires of the flesh and live for God.

There is no greater peace that gives our hearts calm than that peace we have by doing the will of God. When we know we are letting him control our lives we have a harmony that is beyond description. When we walk in his light and allow the blood of Jesus to continue to purify us we have fellowship with others who are serving him but also with Jesus, with God and with the Holy Spirit.

We do and we will face problems in our lives. We live in a physical world that has sickness and death. We may face financial problems from time to time. We have relationship issues that bring us sorrow and make us anxious. We fill our lives so full that we have to juggle our time to try to make it all fit. But when we turn it all over to God, we can let his peace and calmness rule in our hearts.

O Lord God, my heavenly Father, I am thankful for your compassion for me, your love, your mercy and your forgiveness in Jesus Christ. As I look back over my life, I know I have failed you in so many ways and yet I know you have forgiven me and restored my fellowship with you. Help me use every mistake and every sin I have committed, to make me stronger and more determined to be what you want me to be. Give me courage to say what I need to say and love to say it in the right way but also give me wisdom to keep quiet when I need to be quiet. Use me to help others serve you and live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
