Daily Devotional: Psalms 111:1-5

Ps 111:1-5

1 Praise the LORD.I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. 2 Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. 3 Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. 4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate. 5 He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

Rev 4:9-11

9 Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

How can we fathom the greatness and the majesty of God? When we consider the mighty power by which he parted the sea and brought water from a rock or rained food from heaven to feed the multitude of his people, it is truly beyond our ability to comprehend. If you have ever helped prepare food for a large crowd of people, try to imagine feeding over a million (and some estimate Israel to be closer to three million at this time) at one time. The mighty flood that covered the earth and all the other great miracles that we have recorded, demonstrate his power but pale in comparison to his act of creation. He spoke and all we know came into being. Mankind’s greatest wisdom is foolishness in his sight!

This great, glorious and majestic God knows you and me. He understands what we have faced in the days gone by and what we will face today. He not only knows but he cares. His desire is for us to be filled with his joy as we anticipate the day we will leave this earth as we know it today and be with him in eternity, without any of the disease or sickness, the sorrows or troubles or the pain we suffer each day. But the greatest anticipation we have is being in the presence of our mighty God and living face to face with Jesus our Savior.

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds, the stars and heavenly bodies your mighty hands have made, my soul sings “how great you are in all your splendor!” To be able to have you as my Father is so much more than I could ever deserve so I humbly ask you to give me wisdom to live for you. Use me to serve you by serving others. Use what I say to praise you and make my life a blessing to others and to bring glory to your name. Fill my heart with compassion, with your love and mercy. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and Savior.
