Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:7-12

Ps 106:7-12

7 When our fathers were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. 8 Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known. 9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; he led them through the depths as through a desert. 10 He saved them from the hand of the foe; from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them. 11 The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. 12 Then they believed his promises and sang his praise.

Heb 2:1-4

1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4 God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

One of the greatest mistakes that we as human beings can make is to ignore God rather than esteem him and revere him as God. When his word is ignored, so is he. When his word is disrespected by disobedience, so is his majesty. We can never overemphasize the greatness of God as it is the core of our thinking and the basis of all our action. With the proper attitude toward God, we seek to live for him and be like him so we bring him honor and glory. With a wrong disposition toward him, we will seek to live for ourselves and drift father away from him. This magnifies other gods above him; either physical idols or in our minds.

But for those who love God above all else and who seek to glorify his name, the road to serving him brings joy and peace. It may be hard and may bring suffering but even these give honor to the name of the Lord. Jesus became the fullness of God in bodily form and died for our sin. He now is at the right hand of God and rules over all things. We must honor him as God and seek to be like him in all we do and say. The greatest service we can offer is our obedience to his will.

O Lord God, creator of all things and sustainer of life itself, it is with awe and wonder that I think of you and your Son. It is beyond my imagination and my ability to understand how you can be so majestic and still know me and love me so much that you have provided a way for me to be with you in eternity. Help me be more devoted to you, to your word and to serving you and forgive me when I fail. Create in me a heart of love as you love, of forgiveness as you forgive and purity as you are pure. Use me in your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
