Daily Devotional: Psalms 105:16-22

Ps 105:16-22

16 He called down famine on the land and destroyed all their supplies of food; 17 and he sent a man before them--Joseph, sold as a slave. 18 They bruised his feet with shackles, his neck was put in irons, 19 till what he foretold came to pass, till the word of the LORD proved him true. 20 The king sent and released him, the ruler of peoples set him free. 21 He made him master of his household, ruler over all he possessed, 22 to instruct his princes as he pleased and teach his elders wisdom.

2 Peter 3:9-12a

9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.

If we could only see the world and our lives from the eyes of God! What would we see? Where we see pain and suffering from our vantage point, we might see God working his plan to save us or our posterity. When we are facing the most difficult trials that seem to overwhelm us, we might find that God is just getting us ready to do his work. His plan is always best because he works all things together for the good of those who love him and who are called according to his purpose.

Can you imagine the thoughts of the young boy Joseph as he was sold as a slave by his brothers? When he was auctioned in Egypt and bought by Potiphar he could not see that God was working in him. How could he have known that it was God at work when the wicked woman falsely accused him and he was thrown in prison for a deed he had not done or the despair when his seemingly only hope was dashed as the butler forgot about him when restored to his job? But God was at work to keep his promises and used every event to carry out his word. Praise his name, he is still at work in our lives today, whether we see it or not!

Thank you Lord for loving me and working in my life to make me what you want me to become. Open my heart and my will to submit to your bidding. Rid my life of sin and give me a heart like Joseph who trusted you and served you, even when he could not see where it was going. Please be with our nation and our leaders that we might have peace among ourselves. Be with the leaders of other nations that we may get along and world peace might exist. Above all else, help me be faithful to you each day, no matter what I face. I pray in the name of Jesus.
