Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:18-22

Ps 102:18-22

18 Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: 19 “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, 20 to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.” 21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem 22 when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD.

1 Cor 15:1-5

1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the twelve.

The Psalmist says that what he is saying is for future generations. When it comes to pass, all people will know that the Lord is God and his name will be praised. He is saying that God will have mercy on his people and will pardon their sin and will restore them in their glory. In God’s own time his plan will come to pass.

When God makes a prediction, it always comes to pass. His record of prophecies being fulfilled is not just a good one at seventy-five or eighty percent but his record is always one hundred percent; all of the time and always exactly as predicted. This is one of the great proofs of the veracity of scripture and the messiahship of Jesus. Paul uses this to prove that the gospel he is preaching is the truth and is the basis of our salvation. It was done according to the scriptures.

Scripture was fulfilled in the birth of Jesus in regard to the time, place and the circumstances in which it took place. He was born of a virgin in Bethlehem during the time of the Roman Empire. Many other prophecies were fulfilled in his life, his death, his burial and his resurrection. It all took place exactly as predicted.

Heavenly Father, it is such an awesome thing that all of your prophecies come true, exactly as you say. As I ponder this, I am made to realize just how powerful you are and that you are in absolute control of all things. It is hard to imagine your greatness and your ability to carry out a plan over thousands of years when I can’t even control a few moments in my life. In your wisdom you always know what is best so I ask you to help me become what you want me to be and that you use me to your glory. Fill me with your compassion, your mercy and your love so I can be helpful to others and bring honor to your name. I pray in Jesus name.
