Daily Devotional: Psalms 102:6-11

Ps 102:6-11

6 I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins. 7 I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof. 8 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse. 9 For I eat ashes as my food and mingle my drink with tears 10 because of your great wrath, for you have taken me up and thrown me aside. 11 My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass.

Heb 2:9-12

9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

There are times in our lives when it seems that everything has gone wrong that can go wrong. We suffer and see no reason for the suffering or we have loved ones who are going through trials and we feel helpless. God has never said we will be delivered from our suffering but that he will be with us through it. Even his own Son was made to suffer and was tempted. He was pure in both thought and in his life and there was no reason (from our way of thinking) for Jesus to have to suffer. Yet, every kind of trial, every kind of temptation, every kind of suffering that we will face in life, he dealt with it and he overcame.

He did this by trusting in his Father and by the aid of the Holy Spirit. He found strength to deal with each thing that was put in his life. He even faced the horrible death of crucifixion with the help of the Father. Jesus is one of us.

What a joy for each of us to be called the children of God and to be able to know we have an advocate in his presence that has been in our shoes! It is with this assurance that we face each day and what it entails.

O Lord God, I am so thankful that you have provided a way of salvation from sin and allowed me to be your child. I am thankful for the many brothers and sisters you have put in this family and I ask you to help me value the tremendous help I can receive from each one. Use me to help each of them. Thank you for being with me when I face trials and problems and thank you for giving me strength to overcome each one. Give me greater faith to trust you and follow your will. Fill me with your joy and your peace so others will see Jesus living in me. Be with the leaders of the nations that we may live in peace. I pray in Jesus name.
