Daily Devotional: Psalms 63:6-11

Ps 63:6-11

6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. 9 They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth. 10 They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals. 11 But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God's name will praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

Rom 3:3-4

3 What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness? 4 Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.”

God has promised to be with those who are his, even in the darkest night. When we lie down to sleep, he is our shield and when we face the storms of life, he is our shelter. There are times in our lives when we feel we are all alone and there is no one to be with us; to be our real friend. Jesus is that friend who will hold our hand and walk beside us, no matter what we face or who may leave us. We can count on our Lord because he has promised and he is faithful.

His faithfulness does not depend on our faith. Regardless of whether or not we trust God, he is still faithful to his promises. We may miss out on his blessings because of our lack of faith but that is our doing and not his. Jesus will hold our hand and never let go but that does not keep us from letting go of him. As with Peter who was walking on the water but started sinking when he took his eyes off of Jesus, we can know that he is ever there with his hand outstretched to save us from the waves and storms of life. God is true in all he does and says.

Like David, we too can rejoice in the Lord as we give thanks for all things. When things seemingly are going great, we rejoice in our Lord. When things are not going so well and it seems the world has crumbled and tumbled in on us, we still rejoice in the Lord. When others mistreat us and we face trials that seem to be more than we can bear, we rejoice in the Lord because he is our strength, our refuge and our hope. When we are weak, he is strong and gives us his strength.

O God, my heavenly Father, thank you for your love for me that is shown in more ways than I can count or even know. Thank you for being with me in the midst of the storms of life and for taking me through them safely. It is such a joy to be able to hold the hand of my Lord when the way is dark and my path is crooked. I need your wisdom every day to know how to walk beside you. Give me a pure heart, one that is like your servant David; a heart in harmony with you and your will in all I do and say. Forgive me when I sin. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
