Daily Devotional: Psalms 62:1-6

Ps 62:1-6

1 My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. 3 How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down--this leaning wall, this tottering fence? 4 They fully intend to topple him from his lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Selah 5 Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. 6 He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

Col 3:15-17

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

There is nothing any sweeter than peace of mind and rest. When we can go to bed at night with the assurance that we belong to God and all is well with him, we can sleep without any disturbance from the affairs of this world. This doesn’t mean we do not have any problems or that we have done no wrong. We rest with peace because we know we have been forgiven by God and because we know he is in control of our lives and all we face. He has the answers before we even know we have a problem. He alone is our rock and our salvation.

It is with this inner peace we face each new day and thus are able to be at peace with others around us. There is nothing that disrupts our relationships with others more than a guilty consciences on our part. When we do not have the peace of Christ ruling in our hearts we will never be at peace with others.

So we sing songs of thanksgiving to our God eternal for his salvation in Jesus Christ and for his constant love in our lives. No matter what others may say about us or how others may treat us, we have Jesus as our friend and brother. He is our constant companion in all our trials and he will never forsake us. He understands what we face because he has already been through it himself on our behalf.

Thank you God for loving me. Thank you for forgiving me, for watching over me and for always providing a way of escape from the temptations I face. Open my eyes to see you more clearly and give me wisdom to take the right way in every facet of my life. Lord, this morning I thank you for this wonderful country in which I live and for the many freedoms I enjoy and even take for granted. I know you have made this nation great and I ask you to be merciful and forgiving toward us as so many fail to acknowledge you. Give us leaders that respect you and your word and that will honor you in their leadership. I pray in the name of Jesus.
