Daily Devotional: Psalms 37:25-29

Ps 37:25-29

25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever. 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.

1 Thess 5:16-24

16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

The Psalmist is not suggesting that when we serve God we will never face trials or problems in life. There were times he had run for his life and hidden for months in the caves as the king sought to kill him. Rather, he is poetically saying that we can trust God to take care of us and supply our needs, no matter what we face, if we trust him and follow his will. God was his Rock and his Fortress.

God is still our Rock and still our Fortress when we face the battles in life. He is our harbor in the times of storm and our safety when the seas of life rage about us. We can trust God today, tomorrow and every day because he is faithful.

It is his faithfulness that allows us to go to bed at night and rest. The assurance he gives us allows us to rejoice in the midst of trouble and to have peace in our souls because we know he has already won the victory over the enemy, Satan. It is in Jesus Christ we have all spiritual blessings and enjoy the abundant life. He is the God of peace and gives us his peace that the world can’t comprehend. We seek to serve him and put him first in our lives while giving thanks in all circumstances so we can rejoice, even in the midst of pain and suffering.

Thank you God for loving me and giving me your peace in Jesus Christ. Thank you for the physical blessings in my life. Thank you for my family that is so supportive and continues to encourage me daily. Thank you Lord for your spiritual family, so many of whom have helped me in more ways than I can express. As I look back over my life, it is easy to see some very hard times but you have always been with me and faithful to take care of me and my needs. For this and so much more, I praise you and give you all glory in Christ. In his name I pray.
